Domestic Services
Rats, Mice & Rodent control
The two most common culprits of a domestic rodent infestation are mice and rats but there are of course others including squirrels. Both mice and rats are nocturnal and can remain hidden for a long time before you even begin to suspect a problem. Rodents are well know for carrying diseases and can cause serious damage to properties. They also breed at an alarming rate, so it’s vital that you take action at the first sign of a possible infestation.
Signs to look out for:
Insect Pest Control
We can help with almost any type of insect infestation in your home; as with any infestation we recommend that you get in touch at the first sign of trouble. We will carry out a free, no obligation survey prior to conducting any treatments and can advise you of the most effective course of action.
Common problems:
Cluster Flies
Cluster fly infestations occur predominantly in rural areas where they spend the summer living outdoors. However, when the temperatures begin to drop they move indoors to take shelter in areas such as lofts and roof spaces where they hibernate over the winter months.
They are then drawn out again with the warmer weather and can often be seen in large numbers around windows.
It’s important that cluster flies are dealt with properly in order to prevent them from returning year after year, often in even greater numbers with up to 4 generations present at any one time.
Fleas
Fleas are often brought into homes by cats and dogs. You may be able to see them on your pet’s coat or perhaps you’ve spotted ‘flea dirt’ on carpets or rugs?
If in doubt get in touch, I won’t charge you to come and take a look and if you do have a flea problem then we can discuss the options available to you.
Moths
Although moths don’t usually pose a threat to people they can cause serious damage to products such as clothing, carpets and upholstery.
I provide effect treatments for moth infestations and can also offer advice and practical solutions to help prevent issues in the future.
Wasps & Hornets
If you have a wasp or hornets nest in your home or garden then it’s safe to assume you want it removed, and quickly! If you’ve spotted a lot of wasps but are unsure where the nest is, I would advise you not to go looking for it. I will arrive in protective clothing allowing me to locate and remove it for you safely. I have a variety of techniques for getting rid of these pests, including fumigation, fogging machines and localised spraying. For Health and safely reasons we come out to you as a matter of urgency.
Bee Removal
If you have found or suspect that you have a bee swarm in your property, particularly inside your home, then we strongly suggest you contact us to remove the swarm as soon as possible both for your sake and theirs. Bees are generally harmless unless antagonised but if left alone, the swarm could colonise areas such as your chimney, loft space, wall or ceiling cavities. Not only can this cause significant damage to your property but a build up of wax produced by the bees could potentially become a fire hazard if the swarm is located within the chimney.
Bee Rehoming
As a pest controller part of my function is to collect swarms of honey bees from May until July in the Dorset area. This is a free service and once collected, I place each swarm into its own hive where they are cared for. They then flourish in their new homes and produce honey. Around September time I harvest the surplus honey, leaving the bees with enough to see them through the winter. If I’ve rescued a swarm of honey bees from your property I’ll even make sure you receive a jar of their honey!
Bird Control
Certain birds such as seagulls and pigeons can be an absolute nuisance, however, it’s illegal to remove or interfere with the nest of any wild bird, it’s therefore imperative that preventative measures are taken outside of the nesting season; from the end of September to the beginning of April.
The options below are affordable, effective and don’t cause any harm to the birds.
Solutions:
Bird Spikes
Fitting spikes is an effective and humane way to prevent birds from landing on areas such as roofs, guttering and ledges.
Bird Netting
Netting is almost invisible from the ground and can also be used over large areas such as courtyards, preventing birds from entering in the first place.
Solar Panel Bird Proofing
The space between your solar panels and roof provides a welcome space for pigeons and squirrels. To prevent damage to your solar panels, wiring can be installed around them in order to prevent access to any unwanted guests.
Harris Hawk Bird Control
Flying Harris Hawks over large spaces or areas where other methods of bird control are unsuitable, is an effective and natural way to control bird populations, this is a popular option with our commercial and agricultural clients.
